2015 Honorary Chair

AloiShelley Aloi served as Alderman in the City of Frederick from 2009-2013, and is a former candidate for Lieutenant Governor for the State of Maryland.

She was raised in Frederick, attended North Frederick Elementary and Governor Thomas Johnson High School and graduated from Hood College receiving bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry and Mathematics, magna cum laude.

Shelley began her career at Fort Detrick’s National Cancer Institute-Frederick Cancer Research Facility where she was the first person in that program to cultivate the AIDS virus in tissue culture. She also worked on an innovative medical research project that received a US government patent.

Shelley has worked as a teacher at the middle school, high school and university levels, teaching science and mathematics. She was the director of housing and logistics serving seven nations during the 1996 Olympics and directed the top performing southeast regional team for the 2000 U.S. Census. Today, she works as an analyst in the banking industry, ensuring compliance with the Treasury regulations aimed to prevent another financial collapse and to help families stay in their homes.

However, Shelley’s biggest achievement is her life-long commitment to volunteering and helping people in need. She has traveled across the world providing humanitarian aid, and in Frederick she has mentored at-risk youth. Shelley is a highly trained martial artist and has volunteered teaching karate lessons centered on discipline and self-control to youth in Frederick County.
